Internationalist Group
Self-description: An expelled (1996) faction of the Spartacist League and its International Communist League (ICL). The Internationalist Group's global organization is "League for the Fourth International."
Comments: The Spartacist League (SL) long held that "only bloody civil war" could end what they called the "deformed workers' state" in the Soviet Union. When the Soviet Union finally became obviously mainstream capitalist, the SL was in trouble for not understanding basic things--like the difference between capitalism and socialism. The ICL--largely in the name of the Brazilian class struggle--was inevitable not for reasons of SL bureaucracy as the Internationalist Group says, but simply because eventually, some people will notice that history is passing them by. The Internationalist Group represents a last gasp attempt to straighten out the hopelessly confused Trotskyist house on the most basic questions--capitalism versus socialism and revolution versus counter-revolution.
The usual Trotskyist splintering explanations by the Internationalist Group are here
The Internationalist Group's attack on its former comrades concerning basic questions is Trotskyist confusion about China and the USSR
