This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. "Strike"
Directed by Sergei Eisenstein
1925
94 minutes Black & white
This film about a German workers' struggle involves a huge cast and effort
and it is also Eisenstein's first film. At the time, "Strike" was especially
useful for revealing the techniques of management spies sent amongst the
workers to infiltrate the workers' movement.
There is now a modern music accompaniment for this film added on.
There were many stylistically advanced features of this film.
The creation of a picture album where each of the pictures are moving as in movies
appears in this film. Today, such photograph albums are a reality for the commoner.
This film succeeds in stirring up a class hatred for the exploiters
based on actual historical events in Germany. Our only concern is that some
will see this film today and think it still literally applies in Germany, where
the majority of the population is petty-bourgeoisie today. This will
cause some people to think Marxism is or always was out-of-date. On the other hand,
if we change the place to a Third World country today, much of the same treatment
of labor is the same.
