"Inside the CIA: On Company Business" "Part I: The History" 58 minutes, 1987 See also, "Part II"Through interviews with seven former CIA agents, task force leaders and directors, we learn the history of the CIA right from the horses' mouths. MIM recommends this whole series of videos. Phillips and Colby defend the CIA and Agee, Stockwell and Marchetti give it criticism. Viewers unable to follow what is happening should simply replay on their VCRs. One of the things that the videos do not do is answer "why do they do that?" We learn the details of the things the CIA has done, but for many viewers new to politics the answer to "why do they do that" will be lacking. The CIA defenders will say it is the national interest to do what the CIA does, but viewers may want to know what the national interest is as a result. Viewers do need to understand that presidents order the activities of the CIA. The reason they get involved in assassinations and overthrowing whole democratically elected governments is that the president seeks to create foreign puppets of Uncle $am who will do the bidding of U.$.-based multinational companies. Thanks to U.$. based copper companies, the CIA gave money and aided opposition to a presidential candidate in Chile and then subsequently assassinated the elected mushy socialist president and overthrew his whole government. (This is seen in detail in part III.) Thus the answer "why" do they do those things is the business interests of large companies. One defense of the CIA is that if it did not exist, the president would create his own. The implication is that presidents like Nixon who directed Watergate burglars would do the same thing for all matters if the CIA did not exist. Of course, this is true, but a people aroused enough to abolish the CIA will also be able to prevent its political leaders from launching a similar organization.
