MIM Movie Review

This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika.    Handmaid's Tale, The (1990)

   Doesn't live up to Atwood's book, but the basic structure survives,
   so it's still got a lot more going for it than most. Fascist
   fundamentalist Christian takeover in a society where women have been
   stripped of all power, in the name of protecting them from pornography,
   and are openly ruled and controlled by men.  Major disappointments
   include the dramatizing of the Handmaid's "love" affairs, the
   glorification of her maternal "instincts," and her dependence on men
   in the revolutionary movement.
