MIM Movie Review

This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

Costa-Gavras

MIM highly recommends three Costa-Gavras films for how they 
contribute to political knowledge--"Missing," "State of 
Siege" and "Z."

"Z" came out in 1969 and won an academy award the following 
year for best foreign film. It tells the story of the 
Amerikan-backed coup against "democracy" in Greece.

"State of Siege" exposes the CIA in Latin America.

"Missing" is about how the Pinochet regime came to power in 
Chile and the killing of an Amerikan journalist. The film is 
marred only by an Amerikan patriotic ending, when in fact it 
was the United $tates that was instrumental in killing the 
elected president (and "democracy") in Chile.

These films are all factual, explanations of history. They 
contribute to the politicization of the people. If we had 
the resources to do our own films, we could do a better job, 
but under capitalism, we have to take what we can.
These Costa-Gavras films are progressive.
