"Comancheros"
Starring John Wayne
1961
A white man goes to live among indigenous people and sets up a society in which
indigenous people work together with whites. They undertake their own advanced mining,
manufacturing, herding and farming in an integrated society far ahead of its
time of the Wild West of American history.
When the integrated society goes to take back the land stolen by whites from
indigenous and Mexican people, they come upon the villain-in-chief, John Wayne
starring as a Texas Ranger, Jake Cutter. When we find our villain, he is
escorting a duelist named Paul Regret who just killed a man in an old style
shoot-out that was losing favor in white public opinion of the 1840s. The victor
of the duel is to hang, when our villain finds use for him in killing natives.
Together the Texas Rangers swear that Paul Regret could not be guilty of murder
because according to the story made up, he was a Texas Ranger the whole time.
The redeeming point of the cops' lies was that it was to absolve a man instead
of convicting him. Of course, the only time lies for absolution are necessary
according to white nationalism are when the white nation is under threat. Regret
was so good at shooting natives that society overlooked what it deemed
previously as murder.
The cheapest looking scenes in the movie are the two shoot-outs with Comanches,
corral-style. It seems that indigenous people with weapons and horses vastly
outnumbering their foes nonetheless make themselves available for shooting
gallery type killing and our villains gladly oblige.
Lest anyone think this story is missing a gender angle, the hero's daughter
betrays the integrated society he designed for love of Paul Regret. After the
destruction of the integrated society's achievements and the killing of
countless indigenous people and her father, the daughter smiles and waves the
villains off into a happy sunset. The hero's daughter had no concern for
politics or society in her romantic choices. Thanks to her, a paltry group of
Texas Rangers won the day against a whole nation.
