Maoist Internationalist Movement

"Bananas"
Starring and Directed by Woody Allen
1971 (2003 video)
85 minutes
PG-13

Everything Amerikkkan and Latin American is stupid according to this
comedy doing equal-opportunity parody. As usual, Woody Allen plays the
cowardly anti-imperialist who finds himself leading the revolution
as much for the attractive wimmin as for his own confused intellectual understanding.

The opening scene is sports announcer Howard Cosell giving the play-by-play
action on the assassination of a Latin American president. The point is that
such assassinations and coups are a sport in Latin America.

The CIA arrives in the midst of the fighting, this time fighting on both sides
to be sure to be on the good side of whoever is the winner. Woody Allen also
parodies the conformity and idiocy of the McCarthy type of political trial in the
united $tates. Lest anyone get too excited, the Amerikkkan revolutionaries
exemplified by "Nancy" are also a little zany too. Nancy loves the Woody Allen character
once he becomes president, thus showing that what wimmin really want in a man is power.

The net effect of this movie is nihilist, so we will give it mild
approval for now while the task of destroying imperialism is still
on the agenda.
