The same problem: two different solutions, God or communism Born-again television preachers Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell are making the news in regard to the September 11th bombings. Last week in a broadcast on Christian Broadcasting Network run by Robertson, Robertson agreed with Falwell who said, "God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve."(1) Pat Robertson is not wrong about the threat Amerikans face: "I believe we're going to get our teeth kicked in by what's going to happen. We have not begun to see the extent of the terror. We have not begun to see saren gas dropped on our cities. We have not begun to see various biological types warfare. We have not begun to see suitcase-style nuclear weapons. We have not begun to see our installations around the world, the victims of terrorism. And yes we need to go do what Mr. Wolfowitz and the Secretary of State and others have said. But at the same time, if God is departed from us, ladies and gentlemen, we're in for a long, hard, difficult time and we need to be prepared for it."(2) Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell conclude that Amerikans should get square with their Makers, and that God "punished" America for too many sins and maybe God already entirely left "America," which is why the World Trade Center attack succeeded,(3) but MIM concludes that we need to work toward communist society on earth right now, so that no one would use a suitcase nuclear weapon. A week ago, many would have laughed at MIM for saying so, but now there is a wake-up call for peace. People who think Amerikans can kill a few thousand bin Ladens and go back to "security" at home are badly mistaken: they are the ones dreaming. They and their leaders have demonstrated the futility of their approach. People need to decide how they want to go--in the futile direction where death awaits and where God has possibly already left Amerika as Pat Robertson says or in the communist anti-militarist direction where love and life on this earth can triumph. It's not that MIM is dreaming. It's just that Amerikans need to stop waiting for God to create a more perfect earth. One thing is for sure: those thinking the world is not in a dire condition today are wrong. On this MIM and Pat Robertson agree.
