You can't afford not to read MIM Notes! Instead of seriously asking "Why?" after the attacks on 11 September, the mainstream media only asked "Who?" -- and then turned to the military and the police for the answer. Thanks to that kind of toadying and profit-motivated sensationalism, the mainstream keeps everyone misinformed and on the path for more war and more terror. Here are just some of the boners pulled by the mouthpieces of Amerikan imperialism over the last few weeks. * Multiple mouthpieces spread false reports on alleged car-bomb attacks at the State Department on September 11th, which they never withdrew. * As of September 21st the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today had no articles about hate crimes against immigrants and Muslims in the united $tates on their websites, despite scores of such incidents reported in independent media.(1) * KABC Channel 7 "Eyewitness News" in Los Angeles ran an all-day live report on three Yemeni students held by the FBI for questioning. The reports showed the students' street address and apartment number, exposing them to the danger of marauding yahoos. The students were later cleared and released by the FBI but "Eyewitness News" hardly mentioned that.(2) * Across the board, mainstream media praised Bush's 20 September speech as "sensitive, informative and cool headed" -- even though he was asking for a blank check for war, naming 60 countries worldwide as possible targets.(3) * The Washington Times published an essay by former Defense Intelligence Agency Officer Thomas Woodrow, which said, "At a bare minimum, tactical nuclear capabilites should be used against the bin Laden camps in the desert of Afghanistan." The mainstream media generally competed with each other to see who could talk to the biggest ex-mass murderer, whether that be former CIA chief or Secretary of State.(4) The news media should ask the questions the people want answered and not just serve as a voice-box to the government and its police agencies. The fact is that independent media like MIM Notes and the MIM website are a better source of information and analysis about the reaction to the bombing of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon than the major news media because we are not after profit. We want to stop war and put an end to the problems that cause terrorism.
