Some call it a lesbian liberation logo. Actually it's ambiguous. The point is the struggle for wimmin's unity, which some would say requires lesbianism, but which MIM would say requires a theory that all can access. The symbol should have interpretation both for wimmin's unity and lesbian liberation and it nicely supplements the hammer (industrial proletariat) and sickle (peasants). We had some people say the lesbian logo symbol is too secondary to put on the masthead, but our line on gender is that it is fundamental. Moreover, for Amerikan conditions, there are no peasants anymore (while there is an important migrant farm-working proletariat) and the vast majority of industrial workers are bought-off. So saying one logo is more relevant than the other is no slam-dunk.
Since before it began, MIM comrades have been for gay/lesbian liberation. In the Black Panther Party's day, the state hired agents to spread rumors that the Black Panthers were gay. Since then all progressive people have realized that we cannot allow that kind of opening for the state, a division in the revolutionary camp.
