We receive many letters asking if we have a branch in x, y or z place. A similar question is "is the Maoist movement strong in x, y or z place?"
Most people are curious about these questions, because they need to have hope in the revolutionary movement and they need a sense of momentum to stay interested. They may also feel they would like to attend but not lead the revolution.
First, from a security standpoint, people asking this question need to realize that MIM receives much contact from spies and infiltrators. These people seek intelligence for free, and they use various pretenses and disguises to write to MIM with high hopes of obtaining a global update and inside scoop on "terrorists," "criminals" etc.. In contrast, MIM prefers spies who actually do some work for the movement so that they are indistinguishable from communists. That is a sarcastic way of saying that by requiring unity in action, we weed out the people who want to talk their way into spy information.
Secondly, MIM does not seek members who require the party to be a large size or have a branch in their city. We would prefer that people concerned about that would work in RAIL or other organizations with MIM. Below, we have the link for RAIL and concrete organizing opportunities.
We encourage people to think of themselves as the whole branch in their location and see how that alters their actions and perceptions. MIM is for people who can "get into a groove" working as leaders by themselves and one of the criteria of membership is our belief that members have the ability and desire to restart the party from scratch if every other single member were gone. We also have extremely difficult standards of political unity and work requirements. Generally we do not take people until after some years.
Thirdly, again for security reasons, MIM often works with people at "arm's-length." Whether we are in your city or not does not matter in this Internet age if you have Internet access or access to the regular mail! If you live in the imperialist countries and do not have Internet access that may be the first political action you should take--getting Internet access. Without Internet access, our opinion is the same: there is some way to work together without much in details. Our suggestion to you to work with MIM is to break the ice and do something: send money, an article, a translation--whatever it is. We believe it is possible to work at "arm's length" and get much done without exposing the maximum security information.
Our central task is to "create public opinion and the independent institutions of the oppressed to seize power." Concretely, people do not have to work together in branches to achieve that goal. Working together in ways that would thwart police and other reactionary infiltrations is a key challenge of our times.
Concrete information for the Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League is available here.
In general, MIM does not organize branches in the Third World. However, the world is not a series of completely isolated countries and what happens in one place influences another.
As stated here, MIM seeks to set up in the French and English-speaking imperialist countries and their Spanish-speaking internal semi-colonies.
If someone says MIM has a branch in x, y or z, they are probably not MIM members. We also advise people that there are those who will pose as Maoists to have a cover for doing everything from CIA work to throwing off a regional political competitor. If someone says they form a MIM branch somewhere, it's probably not a MIM member saying it. We are more for working together than claiming branches.
An exception to all the above is that anyone can declare themselves an honorary member of the MIM if someone in the party
can verify any actions taken by the honorary comrade (HC) on behalf of the party. See the link on this listed above.
