This is one of the most tightly disciplined, taut and muscular albums there is. It's not just electric power used for the sake of power. The only question is whether this is still "heavy metal" or belongs in "alternative."
The artistic form is well-suited for revolutionary music at this time, because we need aggressive and driving revoulutionaries. Unfortunately, the lyrics are intensely psychological, as in focused on the mind of one persyn, or at most two.
There is not a sappy love song on here, but it's a lot of songs about lying, probably romantic cheating. The good thing about the album is that it handles unpleasant topics from beginning to end.
We've seen Godsmack perform with progressive artists, so we are going to reserve judgment on this band. It obviously has great potential.
