The first song of the album "Megalomaniac" is catchy and it deserves the airtime it gets artistically. It's on the subject of persynality cults, which we oppose, but the political content of the song goes too far.
We've seen enough of the "don't have a cow" attitude. What we need is some megalomaniac revolutionaries to step forward, not just people saying that everything that adults value is worthless--the clarion call of the X Generation. There are serious problems on this planet that need addressing fast.
In fact, the song is not even about opposing persynality cults, because the refrain is "you're no Jesus" or "no Elvis" etc. The song does not actually take anything away from Elvis or Jesus. It's just a call to mediocrity, a call to people to "know their place" in conformity to imperialism.
By itself, this song is no good. However, as background music for a video bashing Bush in context of Iraq, that's something else. The band itself admits that it had no intention of bashing Bush when it produced the album. "'We never intended of it any political implications,'" the band said. It's just that the video for "Megalomaniac" tried to promote peace and bashing Bush. So we would like to see the credit go to the right artists; although, as a band Incubus has spoken against the "war on terror" and Bush.
The rest of the music on the album is interesting but even more pointless. It can only be redeemed through progressive video.
