This is an archive of the former website of the Maoist Internationalist Movement, which was run by the now defunct Maoist Internationalist Party - Amerika. The MIM now consists of many independent cells, many of which have their own indendendent organs both online and off. MIM(Prisons) serves these documents as a service to and reference for the anti-imperialist movement worldwide.

Forbidden Drummers Reviewed

"Che Dance"

2002

The first song "Dance Music" starts out with a criticism of dance music, especially justified as far as we know from Western music. Music without purpose, mindless dance music--these have put people in mental hospitals according to the song and we at MIM agree with that.

The fourth song--a reggae tune--also talks about robbing the rich. Maybe the best song of all is the "Make Bombs" song that is a high-energy percussion ode to guerrilla warfare.

MIM has its disagreements with Che, especially when it comes to Che's military strategy which has ruined so many Latin American movements. However, when it comes to music, it's not as likely that such fine details will make themselves known.

Forbidden Drummers sing in Russian and seem not to have a lead guitarist, just a very active percussion section and a not-so-active bass guitarist. The leading musical influence seems to be reggae, as seen also in the song "People."

We like some of the attitude this group carries.
