We had a 11% increase in active prisoners between July and August. This is a pretty good jump. Of course, some of this increase can be attributed to keeping statistics. Once you start measuring things some people are more attentive about keeping records up to date. Hopefully over time we will start to see more consistency and be able to learn more about what works and what doesn't with our prisoner outreach.
In addition prisoners are reporting receiving MIM Notes mailings after a year of them going out sporadically. We know that prisoners pass the newspaper on to other people after reading it, so we should expect to see increases in the mailing list as a result.
States seeing the biggest increases this month include: California, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, and Colorado. Texas was the only state with a significant decrease this month, and we now know that this is due to internal problems in the MIM prison ministry, not for lack of interest among the Texas prisoners. I hope those will be corrected over the next month or two.
