MIM uses the word "migrant" in preference to the word "immigrant" in reference to U.S. borders, because "immigrant" is often presumptuous in reference to the undocumented workers crossing the Mexican border and other borders.
The word "immigrant" implies that the persyn so named wants to be a U.S. citizen. In actuality, some people believe they are temporary workers who want to return to another country. Others support the idea of the national liberation of Aztlán located in the southwestern region trapped inside U.S. borders. MIM supports the liberation of Aztlán, so we prefer not to use the word "immigrant."
The exceptions in the use of the word "immigrant" occur where we are sure it is correct and refers to intentions and actuality. Another exception is in reference to U.S. Government policies and legislation. House representative Tom Tancredo sponsored a Congressional bill to crack down on migrants in the guise of "immigration reform."
The united $tates is a rich country because of its exploitation of the world. In the movement of the Mexican and Aztlán peoples and other oppressed peoples, there are those who would like nothing better than to become the next Colin Powell or Alberto R. Gonzales. MIM does not speak exactly for their interests though there is some overlap in our interests in the anti-racist fight. MIM speaks for those who do not believe they should be hassled to cross the border for temporary work and those who believe that people from Central and Latin America should form a People's Republic of Aztlán. The socialist national liberation movement does not want to join u.$. imperialism in exploiting the world like Powell and Gonzales.
The key to forming the People's Republic of Aztlán and not creating a bunch of Alberto Gonzales wannabes is organizing the super-exploited workers--those in farming and other businesses receiving below the U.S. minimum wage.
MIM has not always been vigilant enough in the use of the word "migrant" instead of immigrant. Let's work on getting that straightened out. The use of the word "immigrant" is often white nationalist pride regarding the United $tates. Typically Euro-Amerikans in their majority support a crackdown on temporary workers, Aztlán nationalists and immigrants simultaneously as "immigrants." We oppose the Euro-Amerikan majority.
